Our Supported Internship Offer
Supported internships are a fantastic way for young people to gain the skills, experience, and confidence needed to move into sustained, paid employment. Our programme focuses on learning in a real workplace environment to equip interns with the essential employability skills.
Our supported internship is a structured, work-based study programme for young people aged 18-19 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan. We work with North Lincolnshire Council, DFN Project Search and North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust to deliver the programme.
Our Partnership:
We work with North Lincolnshire Council, DFN Project Search and North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust to deliver the programme and interns are based full time at Scunthorpe Hospital. We offer a range of exciting internship opportunities that enable interns to experience real-world work within the hospital setting. These opportunities include areas such as Portering, Estates and Maintenance, Retail, and Catering.
Personalised Support:
We believe in empowering all young people to enter the workplace with confidence. Every intern benefits from a dedicated on-site support team, which includes:
- An On-Site Tutor
- A Job Coach
- A Workplace Mentor
This team works closely with the intern and their family to create individualised employment goals, ensuring the experience is tailored to their personal aspirations and strengths.
What to expect:
- A work pattern 9-4pm Monday to Friday (term time only)
- Independent travel to and from work
- 2 hours a day at the internship base at the hospital, learning functional maths, English, employability and life skills.
- A typical workplace day, working 5 hours per day with the flexible support of a workplace mentor and job coach, followed by a catch-up at the end of the day with the course tutor.
- Support from the DFN Project SEARCH team during and after the internship.
