What is the 16 – 19 Bursary?
A 16-19 Bursary is a government-funded programme in the UK designed to provide financial support to students aged 16 – 19 who are struggling to meet the costs of participating in education or training. This support can be crucial for students facing financial barries that might otherwise prevent them from continuing their studies.
Overview
You could be eligible for the 16 – 19 bursary to help with education related costs if you’re aged 16 – 19 and:
- studying at a publicly funded school or college in England – not a university
- on a training course, including unpaid work experience
A publicly funded school is one that does not charge you for attending it.
Types of Bursary
There are 2 types of 16 – 19 bursaries:
- A bursary for students in vulnerable groups
- A discretionary bursary which are awarded using policies set by the college, in line with government funding rules.
